Arun Valley Websites Made Simple

You would like a website but you consider it too expensive or indeed too complicated.  Therefore I will try and simplify things for you.

You know what a website looks like but what happens once it has been designed and written by someone like Arun Valley?

Once written and fully tested, or preferably before writing commences, your website needs a unique name to distinguish it and identify it from all the other websites.  This is called a domain name such as mysite.co.uk or mysite.com.  If the name you choose has not been snapped up by someone else, you can register practically any name you wish providing it contains only letters, numbers and hyphens.  To avoid confusion and mistakes, think about the consequences of telling someone your domain name over the telephone.  How about books4you.co.uk?  This could be interpreted as booksforyou.co.uk or booksforu.co.uk or books4u.co.uk.

So your website is written and you have a unique domain name.  Now your site needs to sit on a computer called a web server so that it is available for everyone to see.  There is no point in keeping your website to yourself.

There are millions of web servers out there, some good, some bad and some awful.  These definitions are graded by the quality of support and most importantly the serviceability rate.  There is no point in having your website sitting on a server that is unserviceable most of the time because during these times your site will not be available for viewing and yet, you will still be paying for the priviledge.

The owner of the web server will charge you a monthly or an annual fee to host your website.  In other words you have to pay to have your site sitting on a web server so that it can be viewed by anyone and everyone.

On average hosting fees range from as little as £2.50 per month up to £70 per month.  So why is there such a vast difference in price?  If we exclude the extras that are generally bundled with hosting fees, the main differences are the amount of web space you get and the amount of traffic that is allowed.

Web space is similar to available space on your hard drive.  Each web server host will charge you for the amount of web space that you require.  So a small amount of space is cheaper than a large amount of space.

Traffic!  The more you use your car the more you pay in fuel.  Well not quite.  Every time someone looks at your website they are using what is known as your web traffic.  But of course this is what you want.  You want every man and his dog to view your site and for this pleasure you must pay.  The more traffic you get the more you are going to sell your goods or if you have a really bright idea and your site generates lots and lots of traffic such as in the case of "YouTube" you may even be able to sell your site to Google for a mere £80 million.

The good news is that unless you are hoping for something like amazon.co.uk a few web pages will not take up a lot of web space and because it is unlikely that you will have thousands of visitors immediately, the lower end hosting packages should see you through.  Of course if your site grows and it needs more space or indeed your traffic increases dramatically you can always upgrade your hosting package at a later date.

So where do we come in?

We can design and write your website for as little as £300.

We can register your unique .co.uk domain name for as little as £7 for two years or if you prefer a .com domain name for about £8 per year.

We can handle the complete web hosting package on your behalf.

We can upload your website to the web server.

In fact we can do it all for you or we can do just part of the above.  The choice is yours.
